Worship Leader

St John’s Church is looking for a passionate worship leader to join our inclusive and open community. We are looking for someone who can lead our music during our weekend worship, as well as establish a youth and adult choir. St John’s Church is a vibrant and welcoming church with a growing community of families. We enjoy a range of music during our worship and are looking for someone open to the breadth of musical traditions in the Church of England, both traditional and contemporary.

Purpose of the role

The main aim of our Worship Leader would be to strengthen the musical element of our worship on a Sunday, leading the congregation in songs and hymns. We would also like this role to include establishing a youth choir and an adult choir. The role has the scope to allow creativity in how we grow our provision of music.

Responsibilities

·       To lead music at our Sunday services (11:15am each week)

·       To establish a youth and adult choir and lead weekly choir practice

·       To prepare music each week for services and liaise with the vicar as required

Key Skills and Experience

·       Organist (preferred) but would consider a pianist/keyboard player

·       Proficient singer

·       Able to lead worship from a piano/keyboard/organ

·       Flexible between traditional and modern musical styles

·       Confident working with children

·       Able to establish and lead a choir including planning of choir practices

·       Open to the inclusive community at St John’s

·       DBS Check required

·     There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the post-holder is a practising Christian.

Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 applies.

Job Details

·       12 hours per week, including Sunday mornings and preferred Thursday and Friday evenings for choir, however we are happy to discuss flexibility for the right candidate

·       Willing to cover services around major Christian festivals such as Easter and Christmas

·       £15.00/hour

·       1 year fixed term contract

·       Pension contribution
